Apple today announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, the latest revision to its entry-level Pro laptop. Pre-orders open October 28, with units shipping and available in stores from November 6. Pricing starts at $1,999 in the US, or $1,899 with education pricing.
The M6 chip at the centre of this update carries a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU — two additional cores on both counts compared to M5 — with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine and memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple’s benchmarks put the M6 GPU at 30% faster than M5 for graphics workloads and 25% faster for on-device AI tasks. The Neural Engine is rated at 1.9x faster than M5 for AI workloads including image generation and upscaling. Standard configuration ships with 16GB of unified memory, configurable to 32GB.
For users still on Intel, the numbers are considerably more dramatic — up to 11x faster graphics and 13x faster AI performance versus the M1-generation 13-inch MacBook Pro. For M5 users, the generational gains are more modest at roughly 1.3x across most workloads, consistent with Apple’s typical annual chip cadence.
Battery life is rated at 24 hours — Apple’s longest ever on a Mac — unchanged from the M5 Pro-class MacBook Pro but notable for a base M-series chip in the 14-inch form factor. The machine supports fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible USB-C adapter.
Connectivity gets Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, upgrades from the M5 model’s Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The port layout is unchanged — MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, SDXC, and a headphone jack. Display is the Liquid Retina XDR panel with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness, with a nano-texture option available for outdoor and high-glare environments. Camera is a 12MP Center Stage unit.
The M6 MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate, which introduces Siri AI — currently in beta in macOS 27.2 — with deeper system integration including Spotlight and contextual menus, alongside Safari tab organisation, Shortcuts automation by description, and photo editing tools powered by Apple Intelligence. A new Liquid Glass transparency slider in Settings lets users adjust the UI opacity between ultraclear and fully tinted.
On materials, Apple uses 100% recycled aluminium in the chassis, 100% recycled cobalt in the battery, and for the first time, 100% recycled tantalum across multiple capacitors. The recycled content overall is 45%.
The new MacBook Pro models will be in space black and silver.
